A DAD who had been sectioned in a mental health unit was found ‘unresponsive’ in his bedroom after his worried mum told staff of her concerns that he was ‘suicidal’, an inquest has heard.
Father-of-two Niall Tyrrell, emotionally described by his mum as the ‘life and soul of the party’ as she clutched onto a framed photo of him, had been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and was residing at Park House in Crumpsall when he died, after being found by staff in his bedroom in the early hours of May 2 last year.
An inquest into his death before a jury at Manchester Coroners Court heard from his mum Joanne and clinicians based at the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), managed by the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) that Niall had been moved to in the days before he died.
The court heard how Niall, who had struggled with ‘mild depression’ before his mental health ‘became more serious’ in 2021, had been admitted to the Mulberry Ward, a men’s acute ward at Park House on April 9, 2022.
