BBC local radio legend Allan Beswick has signed off from his latenight show for the final time – with a parting shot at the corporation.
All of the BBC’s regional latenight shows have been axed in a major station restructure.
They are being replaced by a new all-England late show, Late Night with Becky, with BBC Radio Manchester’s Becky Want, from Sunday to Thursday, and with Jo Good on Friday and Saturday. The show will be networked to local stations across the UK, replacing regional output.
Allan, known for taking calls and saying ‘how do’ to his listeners, has been a regular on BBC Radio Manchester for more than 30 years. His final show aired on Saturday night and he has announced he is now to retire.
The show included telling songs like The Last Time by the Rolling Stones. And his three-hour finale was dominated by callers phoning in to thank Allan for being there for them over the years.
