ANGELA Rayner says a ‘council house saved my life’ as she used her Labour Party Conference speech to unveil a raft of reforms.
Ms Rayner, who grew up in council housing in Stockport, before leaving school at 16, also said her life was turned around by the Labour governments of 1997-2010.
Her address came on the opening day of the event in Liverpool, which runs until Wednesday.
“A council house saved my life... A Labour government took me from a council estate to the parliamentary estate,” the deputy leader told a packed auditorium.
“That’s where my Labour values come from and my confidence to succeed.”
