United regard Bailly and Telles as must-sells that is, they can go without being replaced. United are cagier about other squad members who serve a purpose as cover or competition for the starters.
David de Gea is about to be replaced with an upgrade in Andre Onana. There was a lot of face-saving surrounding De Gea's departure when De Gea had to face the music.
Ultimately, there was no marriage of convenience and Erik ten Hag has seen off the only other remaining legend in the squad two years after his permanent predecessor lost his nerve.
