The technical beauty of Garnacho's mind-blowing overhead kick took the breath away. If Rooney's overhead kick against City kind of summed him up, all power and rage and hard edges, then Garnacho's was reminiscent of his own style. It was balletic in its execution and the trajectory of the ball.
But Erik ten Hag quickly played down any comparisons with Rooney and Ronaldo after United's best away win of his tenure, with the 3-0 success at Everton secured in impressive circumstances.
For all the talent Garnacho clearly possesses in those feet, he is not at the level of either of those United greats when they were the same age.
This was another example of the youngster's ability to score outstanding goals. He's done it ever since opening his account in impressive style at Real Sociedad just over a year ago.
Although Antony was absent with injury on Merseyside, it's hard to make a case for the Brazilian getting back in this side at the moment. Garnacho's dribbling makes him a constant threat on the wings and he is a better fit to play in a side keen to be razor-sharp on transitions than Antony.
The Argentine clearly enjoyed his spectacular contribution at Goodison Park, but the next evolution in his game has to add the routine to the outrageous.
