Salford able to hold off late surge from Giants

SALFORD held off a spirited late revival from Huddersfield to record an 18-16 victory in an ill-tempered Betfred Super League contest.

Having lost at St Helens last week following a last-gasp Jonny Lomax drop goal, the Giants almost pulled off a rescue act of their own despite a Nene Macdonald-inspired Salford being 18 points ahead.

Macdonald scored two tries and had a hand in another but with 10 minutes left, Huddersfield, despite being a man down following Elliot Wallis' red card, hit back as Adam Swift, Tui Lolohea and Jake Bibby all dotted down.

In the end, Marc Sneyd's three successful conversions to Jake Connor's two proved the difference as Salford claimed a hat-trick of consecutive wins at a place that is a happy hunting ground for them.

This was a third triumph in a row at the John Smith's Stadium for the Red Devils, who had Ryan Brierley and Chris Atkin sent to the sin bin but were largely in control from the moment they went ahead early on.
