INEOS founder and Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe has admitted negotiating with all of the Glazer siblings during the United takeover is difficult in extracts leaked from a new book.
Ratcliffe is one of the runners to purchase United after the American owners put the club up for sale back in November.
However, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is widely understood he is in pole position to buy the club.
Originally from Failsworth, Ratcliffe is a childhood United fan despite in recent years owning a season ticket at Chelsea.
In excerpts revealed by The Times from a new book on Ratcliffe, the 70-year-old explains his first meeting he had with the Glazers.
As quoted by the newspaper, Ratcliffe said: “We went to see them and they were charming. They [Avram, Joel, Kevin, Bryan, Darcie and Edward, children of the late Malcolm Glazer] are all very nice, despite the press they get.
“Josh was really hospitable. But the club is owned equally by siblings and you can’t talk to that many siblings, really.”
The book also sheds light on the birthday messages he received from three United legends after turning 70 last month, with one sticking out in particular.
He added: “David Beckham, who I know a little bit, Alex Ferguson... but the real surprise for me was Eric [Cantona all sent messages].
