Teenager quizzed in murder probe

A murder investigation is under way following the death of a 30-year-old man who was assaulted in an 'altercation' at traffic lights Emergency services rushed to the man's aid on Kingsway, in Parrs Wood, Didsbury, at about 1.40am yesterday, but police say he died from his injuries a short time later.

A large cordon was already in place along the A34 well before the morning rush hour, between Queensway and the Parrs Wood Lane junction, where the incident took place.

Rumours had already begun to surface of a shooting, but it's understood these were incorrect.

The M.E.N. understands the victim was found with stab wounds following the attack.

Didsbury East councillor Andrew Simcock urged residents 'not to speculate' following the tragedy, which was described by officers as 'isolated'

Forensic officers gathered bags of evidence and images from the taped-off stretch of road.

A number of evidence markers were placed down on the northbound carriageway, which would usually be packed with commuters heading from Cheadle and Wilmslow towards the city centre.

On the opposite side of Kingsway, a white coach and a grey Mercedes-Benz - seen with its front passenger window open - remained inside the cordon.

The stretch of A34 remained closed into yesterday afternoon while police worked at the scene.
