KILLER DRIVERS SPARED JAIL AS COURT TOLD OF HEARTBREAK AT DEATH OF ‘HEAVEN-SENT' JOAN

JOAN Spence was waiting to cross the road.

It was a journey she made all the time when she was putting some rubbish in the bin near to her home in Moss Side.

But as she waited for the lights to turn red allowing her to safely cross the road, a car crashed into the traffic light, causing it to fall on her.

She died from catastrophic head injuries.

A taxi, driven by Mahad Ciid, had swerved from the middle lane to the left hand lane. He had not indicated or checked his mirrors, a court was told.

Travelling in the left hand lane at 40mph a Toyota Auris, driven by Mohamed Mahamoud, hit the taxi in a glancing blow.

It then veered onto the pavement and crashed into the traffic lights, killing Joan.

The devastating incident took place in July 2021 at the junction of Princess Road and Great Western Street in Moss Side.

This week, both drivers were spared jail, instead receiving suspended sentences.
