CAS rejects Vinesh's appeal against Olympic disqualification
Millennium Post Delhi|August 15, 2024
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s hopes for a belated Olympic silver medal were dashed on Wednesday when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected her appeal against disqualification from the women’s 50 kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics.
CAS rejects Vinesh's appeal against Olympic disqualification

The 29-year-old grappler was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight on the morning of the final last week.

The CAS ad-hoc division, in a terse one-line statement, dismissed the application filed by Phogat on August 7, 2024. This decision came despite an earlier announcement of an extended deadline until August 16 for the verdict.

Phogat had appealed for a joint silver medal with Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who lost to her in the semi-finals but was promoted to the final following the Indian’s disqualification. The gold medal was claimed by American Sarah Ann Hildebrandt.
