The move, which saw widespread support from parties like the National Conference (NC), People's Democratic Party (PDP), People's Conference, and CPI(M), led to chaotic scenes in the Assembly as BJP members vocally protested, tearing up copies of the resolution and storming the well of the House.
The resolution, which voiced "concern" over the "unilateral removal" of the region's special status, was introduced by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary. It read, "That this legislative Assembly reaffirms the importance of the special status and constitutional guarantees, which safeguarded the identity, culture, and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and expresses concern over their unilateral removal."
