SHIMLA: Newly elected Congress MLAs on Friday unanimously passed a resolution authorising the party president to pick their leader who will be the next chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing the media after the legislature party meeting, AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajeev Shukla said the one-line resolution was passed unanimously and the party’s observers would submit their report to its high command on Saturday.
Refuting that there is factionalism within the Congress party as several leaders were lobbying for the chief minister’s post, Shukla said no name came forward for the post of the legislature party leader and the MLAs unanimously decided that the party leadership would take the call.
Earlier, as the Congress started the process for the formation of the government on Friday after arrival of high command observers—Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, former Haryana CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda, and AICC in-charge Rajiv Shukla, the task of electing new chief minister looked quite challenging, and intensely contested.
The observers faced charged-up supporters of PCC president Pratibha Singh who shouted slogans asking them to name her as chief minister without any delay as she was the only choice for the post to carry forward the legacy of her husband—Virbhadra Singh.
