PM Modi urges peaceful resolutions to conflicts in talks with Putin, Pezeshkian

KAZAN/NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in significant diplomatic meetings on Tuesday, holding talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During his discussion with Putin in the central Russian city hosting the 16th BRICS summit, Modi emphasised that the Russia-Ukraine conflict should be resolved peacefully, offering India's full cooperation toward that goal. In a separate meeting, President Pezeshkian highlighted the potential role India could play in de-escalating tensions between Iran and Israel in West Asia, noting India's favourable diplomatic relations with all parties involved in the conflict.

In his meeting with the Russian President, Prime Minister Modi conveyed that India believes in peaceful solutions to conflicts, referring to the Russia-Ukraine issue.

Both leaders met warmly on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. The summit of the informal group of states comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) is being held in Russia's Kazan.

PM Modi congratulated the success of the BRICS grouping over the fact that many other nations want to join it.

"We have been in touch with all sides in the Russia-Ukraine problem. It has always been our position that all conflict can be solved with dialogue. We believe there should be peaceful solutions to conflicts. India is always ready to help bring peace," PM Modi said.

"Russian-Indian relations have the character of a particularly privileged strategic partnership and continue to actively develop," President Putin told PM Modi.
