The Supreme Court has unequivocally stated that the practice of referencing the caste or religion of litigants in court cases must be discontinued. The bench, comprising of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, has issued a directive to its registry and all other courts, instructing an immediate end of this practice.
In its directive to all high courts, the bench has mandated that the memo of parties in any petition filed before them or their subordinate courts must not include the caste or religion of any litigant.
