Britain's two biggest parties are locked in battle for the crucial pensioner vote - and the latest sally shows the ferocity of personal attacks expected in the coming weeks.
Shadow Paymaster General Jonathan Ashworth said older people should not trust Rishi Sunak with their financial futures any more than Mr Johnson should have trusted the man who "stabbed him in the back".
Mr Ashworth, who worked for Gordon Brown in the last Labour government, doubled down on the claim that Tory ambitions to axe National Insurance would lead to a £46billion black hole and higher borrowing, pensioners paying more tax or NHS cuts.
In a highly personal attack, he claimed the PM is "coming for pensioners".
He said: "I don't think pensioners can trust Rishi Sunak because, let me put it like this, Boris Johnson trusted Rishi Sunak. He plucked him from obscurity, made him the Chancellor, made his career, and then Rishi Sunak stabbed him in the back."
