EAM Jaishankar on global trends - Questions China's motives, sees India-Japan partnership in re-globalization

India's External Affairs addressing the Raisina Roundtable in Tokyo, expressed concerns over the state of India-China relations amidst the border standoff.

He emphasized the importance of upholding written agreements with neighbouring countries, highlighting China's departure from this norm as a cause for concern and questioning its intentions. Jaishankar underscored the strategic implications of power shifts in the Indo-Pacific region, urging for stability amidst evolving dynamics.

Reflecting on India's evolving global standing, Jaishankar praised India's growing ties with other nations, particularly citing advancements in Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with Australia and UAE, along with ongoing negotiations with the UK and the European Union. He highlighted India's expanding economic footprint, citing rising trade levels, exports, and Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs).

In the context of India's relations with the Middle East, Jaishankar commended India's ability to navigate challenges and maintain strong ties with Gulf states, Egypt, and Israel. He emphasized India's strategic diversification of diplomatic relations, including efforts in Europe and the United States.
