After Prime Minister Narendra Modi forecasted a historic victory for the BJP in the upcoming election and predicted record highs for the stock markets on June 4, the benchmark Nifty index soared past the 22,800 mark for the first time during Thursday’s trading session.
The Nifty index achieved a new peak at 22,852 points, while the Sensex climbed to 74,917, just shy of its all-time high of 75,124. In an interview, PM Modi commented, “Wait and watch on June 4; the programmers behind the stock market will get tired of the action.” He suggested that the financial markets would set new records following June 4, when the Election Commission will count the votes of the sevenphase Lok Sabha elections.
