Food poisoning: 50 pupils in Limpopo land in hospital

A total of 50 pupils from a Giyani primary school have been hospitalized following suspected food poisoning.

The Limpopo department of health's spokesperson Neil Shikwambana confirmed to SABC News the pupils from Dzumeri Primary School have been hospitalized.

"The report that we have from our medical team is that all pupils look stable."

"They are being seen by the doctors and our medical staff at the causality of the Nkhensani Hospital in the greater Giyani area," he said.

After the treating team interviewed the pupils and teachers, it was revealed the food the pupils ate in common was the meal (pap and milk) they received from the National School Nutrition Programme, the spokesperson said.

"It is suspected it came out of that, but we're not sure yet because there needs to be tests run - but that's the information we have now," Shikwambana said.
