Having made history at the showpiece, despite falling at the last hurdle, captain Aiden Markram hopes the Proteas' performances at the T20 World Cup will trigger more successful results for the national squad at major global championships moving forward.
While they went unbeaten in eight previous matches at the tournament, the SA team were handed a narrow seven-run defeat by India in the final in Barbados on Saturday, in what Markram admitted was a "gut-wrenching" result.
Looking ahead, however, Markram believes the current group of players has proved they can win trophies, and they are confident of doing so over the next few years.
