SA electricians switch on at Olympic Games

Two KwaZulu-Natal electricians, who played an important technical role behind the scenes of the broadcasting at the Paris 2024 Olympics, have shared their experiences of witnessing all the wins and the wealth of knowledge gained.

Snenhlanhla Shembe and Kagiso Khotseng were two of more than 60 South Africans who were contracted for electrician jobs at the Olympic Games.

They were tasked with connecting power cables to various devices and online broadcasting equipment, generators and UPS systems.

The two became aware of the opportunity for South African electricians to work at the Olympics and Paralympics and applied to go.

"This experience has been great," said Shembe, who is from Durban.

She was excited to watch South African gold and silver medallist winner Tatjana Smith swim and record a video of it on her phone.
