'Terbufos behind deaths'

Terbufos, the chemical found in some spaza shops, is commonly found in the pesticide aldicarb, which was banned eight years ago, Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen said yesterday.

Steenhuisen was at a media briefing where ministers outlined government's plan to manage foodborne illnesses.

He suspected the terbufos found was being imported.

"From the looks of the pictures of what has been, it differs quite from the colour and texture of locally produced terbufos."
