The assistant director-level officer, Sandeep Singh, was allegedly caught while accepting Rs20 lakh from a Mumbai-based jeweller.
The ED has taken cognisance of the arrest and, adhering to its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, initiated criminal action against Singh. An ECIR case has been registered against him under the Prevention Laundering of Money Act, 2002 (PMLA). In addition, action has been initiated to place him under suspension and for his repatriation to his sparent department, which is the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), officials said.
According to the officials, Singh was appointed as assistant director in the ED in May 2023.
