FIR transferred without a whisper; HC asks why
  • Slum dwellers claim they have valid documents and have been living in the slum for 30 years

While hearing a petition filed by 28 homeless slum dwellers seeking compensation and prosecution of civic officials for the demolition, the Bombay High Court was informed of transfer of the FIR. When asked about the reasons, public prosecutor Hiten Venegaonkar said he was unaware. The HC then asked the senior police inspector of Sakinaka police station to remain present in court today (Thursday) to clarify.

Petitioners' advocate Subhash Jha told the bench that a Deputy Commissioner of Police had ordered the demolition of the hutments.
