Kejriwal to quit today, seize high moral ground

While the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday reiterated that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal would resign from his post on Tuesday and the party would then select its new CM, speculation is rife about who that new face would be.

The decision on the new chief minister would bear Kejriwal's imprint; it would also give some indication why Kejriwal decided to leave the top post and go to the public for an "agni-pariksha" (trial by fire) following his release on bail in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kejriwal had on Sunday declared that he would step down and only return once the people of Delhi repose faith in him in the next Assembly elections of Delhi.

However, while he had demanded that he wanted the next Assembly polls to be held along with the Maharashtra elections in November, and not as per their original schedule in February, his decision to go ahead with the selection of the new CM, instead of proposing dissolution of the Delhi Assembly, has flummoxed his opponents as well as political pundits.
