In a bid to soothe the frayed tempers over the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue and control the collateral political damage, PM Modi has tendered a public apology.
"For me and my colleagues, and countless others, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is far more than just a king. He is a deeply revered figure. I humbly bow my head in apology," said the PM at Vadhavan in Palghar district. "I sincerely apologise, as I understand their sentiments were deeply hurt. My values and upbringing are such that I feel nothing is greater than our revered deity."
