As the New Year set in, there was gloom in the house of Nimisha Priya, a Kerala nurse who has been sentenced to death in Yemen for murdering her business partner.

The country's President Rashad al-Alimi has approved the death sentence given by the courts and reports said she will be executed in a month's time.

In Delhi, a spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India was "extending all possible help" to the family of the nurse. "We are aware of the sentencing of Nimisha Priya in Yemen. We understand that the family of Nimisha is exploring relevant options. The government is extending all possible help in the matter," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
