In the mid-1970s the Eagles were working on a spooky, cryptic song.
Don Henley, with input from the band's fellow co-founder, Glenn Frey, jotted down thoughts on "a dark desert highway" and "a lovely place" with a luxurious surface and ominous undertones. The ensuing song, Hotel California, became one of rock's most enduring records.
Glenn Horowitz, a dealer in rare books, Craig Inciardi, a former Rock & Roll Hall of Fame curator, and Edward Kosinski, a memorabilia seller, are charged with conspiring to own and trying to sell manuscripts of Hotel California and other Eagles hits without the right to do so.
The defendants were arrested in July 2020 and have pleaded not guilty.
