The Pilgrims have followed up their League One title triumph last term by picking up 16 points from their opening 15 games, which has them in 19th position at the moment. While on the face of it that record might not seem too impressive there is a significant difference in the standard between League One and the Championship.
Azaz has been one of Argyle’s best performers with three goals and three assists and was nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player-of-the-Month award for September.
That is made even more creditable by the fact that when Azaz joined Argyle on a second consecutive season-long loan from Aston Villa three days before the league campaign began in early August he had not played any warm-up matches for the Premier League club because his future was uncertain at the time.
Azaz has come on strong after a predictably low-key start to his second stint with the Pilgrims and has proved he can be very influential at Championship level. A goal and an assist in the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough at Home Park on Saturday was further proof.
