A BID to turn Plymouth’s disused airport into a temporary car park has been grounded by Plymouth City Council.
The site’s long lease-holder Sutton Harbour Group Plc (SHG) revealed the parking plan had been turned down but said it was still pressing ahead with plans to build on the land – although it might now look at including an “aviation component”.
SHG has also asked the council, which still has the freehold of the 113-acre plot, if it can be used to store construction materials while a huge revamp at nearby Derriford Hospital is taking place.
The AIM-listed company said it was awaiting a response but revealed a request to use the land for parking for “a few years” had been rejected.
