The band was formed in 1981 by Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson in their native town of Dunfermline in Scotland, the pair sharing a vision of widescreen guitar melody, harmony and lyric. Their sound was enhanced later that year by the arrival of drummer Mark Brzezicki and bass player Tony Butler. It was this line up of the band that recorded debut album The Crossing in 1983, that was to become a classic.
