THREE men and a dog who had to be rescued when their canoe capsized have thanked the rescuers who helped save them.
James Tarrant, along with two friends and his cavapoo puppy were out in a Canadian canoe on Easter Sunday when they hit a violent swell and ended up in the water.
All three, along with the dog, were helped from the sea by rescuers. James said: “We decided to have a nice afternoon together, paddling around the Hoe.
“We launched from Mount Batten water sports centre, heading towards Tinside. The water was nice and calm, until we reached the Lion’s Den when the calm conditions changed as we suddenly lost the protection given from the breakwater.
“Instead of flat calm water, we now had three to four foot swells.”
The group decided to turn the canoe around and head back to calmer waters, but were hit by a stack of five swells.
