Charities issue fresh appeal for support ahead of holidays

CHARITIES supporting some of the most in-need people in Tamworth have issued fresh appeals for support ahead of a predicted spike in demand over the school holidays.

As the cost of living crisis continues, demand is rising but donations are decreasing - a worrying combination.

Emma Coates, Tamworth Foodbank manager, told the Herald: “It makes me very sad that as a society we’re allowing more and more people to be put in a position where they’ve got no option but to turn to charities like Tamworth Foodbank for the real basics of life.

“In the past 12 months, Tamworth Foodbank has supported 7,850 local people in crisis with £154,000 worth of food.

“We expect the next 12 months to see similar figures and unfortunately donations have considerably decreased compared to previous years. With the upcoming summer holidays, we usually have a spike in families needing to use our services.
