A PLYMOUTH pub that is opening on Christmas Day has been described as a 'lifeline. The Eagle on Cornwall Street is popular with all ages, but some of the older regulars who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day are pleased that they can come along as normal to enjoy the festivities.
Locals say it's a 'peaceful spot' in the daytime as well as being warm and welcoming. They spoke highly of the pub's landlady, Emily Gardener and said how well-run the pub is, with many planning on popping down to the pub over Christmas.
Eagle bar worker Sharon Chalmers said the boozer is a lifeline for some regulars. She said that the pub, in its city centre location, is a 'good place for people to come in and meet friends' and as well as the locals, there's often sailors passing through when ships come in to Plymouth.
