A PLYMOUTH man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of numerous rapes and other sexual offences against the same victim.
Stephen Gibbeson, aged 53 and from Stonehouse, was found guilty by a jury at Plymouth Crown Court in February of nine sexual offences, seven of which were rapes upon the same victim.
Gibbeson appeared at Plymouth Crown Court via video link from HMP Exeter last Friday, when he was sentenced by Judge Peter Johnson. The 53-year-old failed to look into the prison camera at any stage of the sentencing hearing and was seen to be visibly shaking for most of the hearing.
The court heard how over a prolonged period of time, Gibbeson subjected the victim in the case to repeated attacks, many of which were carried out outside at locations in Plymouth. Gibbeson became aggressive whenever the victim attempted to resist.
