TWO years ago, Jacob Dawson was staring death straight in the face. Now, he is heading to Paris in an attempt to win Olympic gold.
The 30-year-old former Plymstock Secondary School pupil, who has been selected to represent Great Britain in Rowing’s Men’s eight competition, contracted Covid in April 2022 and as he sat at the desk in his home, he felt some discomfort in his rib.
Thinking little of it. Dawson took some paracetamol to ease the discomfort. Five minutes later, he was lying on the floo9r in agony, unable to speak and barely able to breathe.
“it was the worst pain I’ve felt in my life,” admits Dawson, who was quickly driven to hospital by his concerned girlfriend. There, Dawson was misdiagnosed with stressed ribs before being discharged.
