EFL chief hopes PL will put offer on the table

EFL chairman Rick Parry hopes that the Premier League will put a funding offer on the table to the Football League, after the introduction of the Football Governance Bill in Parliament this week, but believes it is highly unlikely a deal will be struck without the involvement of an independent regulator.

The two organisations have been at loggerheads for months over the distribution of the Premier League's wealth, with Government telling the Premier League to come up with something, or risk the appointment of an independent regulator to resolve the issue.

With no offer forthcoming, a Bill was put forward in Parliament earlier this week, which includes the appointment of a regulator to decide on the distribution of the billions of pounds coming into English football in a much fairer way.

"We are hopeful because I think this is another area of uncertainty that has been removed. Up until now, it's been a case of 'will they do the regulator, won't they do the regulator?' and probably an element at Premier League level of 'let's wait and see," Parry said.
