A CHARITY that maintains 26 community gardens in Woolwell is campaigning for funding for a multi-use pathway in one of their biggest green spaces.
Woolwell in Bloom are a registered charity looking after public gardens in the area, including their Jubilee Garden on Woolwell Road, which they took over in April 2022.
After they took on the land under licence from Plymouth City Council, they wanted to develop the garden as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was celebrating her Platinum Jubilee that year.
The group were donated a bench from Bickleigh Parish Council, which they placed in a sunny spot with planters on either side, and since then have been trying to raise the funds for an pathway running the 16ft from the main path to the bench.
Woolwell in Bloom chairperson Soraya Lewis-Coleman said they have already been turned down by various bodies, including Plymouth City Council, South Hams District Council and the National Lottery.
Mrs Lewis-Coleman said the path would need to be properly laid in order to meet the requirements of their public liability insurance, and the cheapest quote they have had is for more than £4,000.
