LOSING a loved one is always going to be tough, but when a person dies due to drugs or alcohol circumstances it can be difficult finding someone to listen to you, without judgment. Now, a new bereavement service has opened in Plymouth as a safe space for people who’ve lost loved ones to overdose, or drug and alcohol-related deaths.
The Hope Bereavement Support Cafe – which meets monthly at Elspeth Sitters House, Hoegate Street in Plymouth, on the first Wednesday of each month from 7 pm – provides support to those impacted by drug or alcohol deaths. It is also a place to remember loved ones who have passed away.
The community initiative was set up by a group of women who’ve experienced the death of their relatives or friends from drug overdose.
It’s a safe and confidential space for people to meet, talk and build connections over coffee, tea and cake – and is supported by the Salvation Army.
