Hobbs sees signs of progress but he wants points

THEY may still be in the Southern League Premier Division relegation zone right now, but Plymouth Parkway manager Lee Hobbs insists that his side are on an upward trajectory ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Basingstoke Town.

Hobbs sees signs of progress but he wants points

Parkway have not won since they thrashed Dorchester Town 5-0 in their last clash at Bolitho Park on September 26, with 1-1 draws at Winchester City and Merthyr Town sandwiching a 2-1 FA Trophy defeat at AFC Totton.

They were three games that, on another day, Parkway could easily have won, but the performances at Winchester, a notoriously tough nut to crack on their home patch, eighth-placed Totton and second-placed Merthyr gave Hobbs plenty of cause for optimism moving forward.

“Let’s not move away from the fact that we have been playing against very, very good opposition,” Hobbs said. “For us, since the defeat at Harrow where we played really, really well, to come away with something from Winchester, which is a very difficult place to go, was something we were very, very pleased with.

“That was a good week’s work and then we went to Totton and played well enough, but probably didn’t do well enough to get the win.

“Then we went to Merthyr, who are currently flying high and we ground out a 1-1 draw, which kept the momentum going and meant we are unbeaten in three (league games) and it was a game where we had umpteen chances and their goalkeeper has had the best half of his life!
