Ivybridge go second after weekend win

C WEST DIVISION

A 68-run win over relegation worriers Babbacombe has moved Ivybridge up to second place in the C Division West.

On a day when wet weather was an interrupting feature of games right across the Tolchards DCL, Ivybridge got a full 45-overs batting time in and used them to make 277 for eight.

Skipper Josh Zimmerman made 40 at the top of the order and a third-wicket stand of 94 between Cebo Tshiki (54) and Harry Solomon got the Bridge up to 153 for three.

After Dan Western (3-57) removed. Tshiki, and Zac Dunn was spectacularly caught in the cordon by Steve Broad off Marcus Tanton (2-46), Ivybridge got going again.

Solomon and Adam Huxtable put on 46 in a hurry with the latter making 37 off 29 balls.

Left-hander Solomon was finally out for 67 with fewer than three overs to go having been involved in stands that added 242 runs.

Babbacombe had to score at more than six an over from the start to win the game, which was always going to be a tough ask.

Few of the top-six batters was able to match the run-a-ball rate required for long against a frugal Ivybridge attack.

Josh Thompson's 66 not out from 52 balls was as good as it got for Babbacombe in a reply that reached 181 for nine. Marcus Thompson, his dad, made 36 and Tim Goodwin 39.

Maddie Turner, Arthur Johnson, Lewis Clarke, Huxtable and Jacob Kopparambil all conspired to keep the runs down.

immerman came on towards the end of the game and picked-up five bottom-half wickets for 22 runs.

Ivybridge took over second place from Brixham, who missed out on two bonus points in their win over Ashburton.

CORNWOOD 2nd XI defeated their Plymouth counterparts by 21 runs in a rain-affected game at Oak Park.
