Morgan's get the better of Keep's in Pairs tie
The Herald|November 14, 2024
THE battle of the Father and Son pairs saw Brian and Jack Morgan get the better of Vince and Connor Keep, with the game starting in a tricky gusting wind.

Morgan's get the better of Keep's in Pairs tie

The Morgans adapted to the conditions quicker and raced into a two sets lead without dropping a game. With both sons supplying the energy, and the fathers supplying the advice, it was a lot more competitive in the third set with the match finishing 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 to the Morgans.

Alex Stephenson and Dom Sivewright were too strong for Dave Gale and Simon Dixon and they continued their unbeaten streak winning 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.

John Putman and sub Steve Dawber had a very close first set against Jon Jacobs and Lee Horton but John and Steve took control thereafter. It was a good first winter league match for Steve as he and John won 6-5, 6-0, 6-2.

An immediate opportunity for Pete Ireland and Andrew Regan to avenge last week’s defeat to Lewis Edwards and Richard Cooper presented itself this week, but Lewis and Richard won 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 with the scoreline not reflecting a close match that had many deuces.

Some great forehand rallies on a blustery night saw Sam and his substitute partner Ignacio win fairly comfortably in the end in Men’s A Division against Mark Skerton and James Driscoll 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Linda Trebilcock and Hilary Picton had to think hard about how to defeat Claire Duffin and Helen Lucas. Claire ran in and volleyed decisively from mid-court so Linda and Hilary resorted to some slower returns and lobs to win 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

Katherine Rowe and Roanna George found Alison Miles like a gazelle at the net and they struggled to get anything past her. Katherine was consistent and they won overall 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
