New figures reveal scale of empty homes in city

PLYMOUTH saw more than 2,500 homes sit empty throughout 2022, with a further 12,000 vacant properties across Devon.

The 2,566 unused homes in the city were estimated to be worth around £571,160,808.

The figures, collated by House Buyer Bureau, show 14,580 properties across Devon were not being used last year. This amounted to 2.5 per cent of the county’s total housing stock.

The data, which has been broken down by local authorities, shows Torbay had 2,598 empty homes, 32 more than Plymouth. This made up 3.7 per cent of the area’s stock.

The national average for 2022 – which Devon falls just behind when it comes to unused properties – was 2.7 per cent.
