Ormsby turns on the style in Cornwood win

PREMIER DIVISION

OFF-spinner Jack Ormsby turned in remarkable bowling figures of four for 10 in Cornwood's win over relegation certainties North Devon.

Ormsby and skipper Elliott Staddon (3-26) were largely responsible for North Devon being skittled out for 137 with eight of their 50 overs unused. Matt Skeemer (2-37) played a part as well.

North Devon were 18 for four after an early pasting from Skeemer and Staddon, but were saved from total embarrassment by a dogged 53 not out from Jack Popham.

Popham, who faced 91 balls, Josh King (22) and Richard Screech (15) took North Devon's tally to 86 for six.

Popham kept going at one end, but at the other Ormsby was twirling them out for a pastime during his 10-over stint.

King, a former Devon seamer, nipped out both Cornwood openers before Ben Beaumont (44) and Noah Carlisle (29) got the chase on an even keel.

Skeemer (20no) and Staddon (10no) were there at the end when a five-wicket win was sealed with more than six overs to go.

Skipper Staddon said: "There were some good performances, but Jack Ormsby was the standout for us."

Cornwood, title contenders for three-quarters of the season, remain on course for a top-four finish.

Staddon accepted a while ago Cornwood would miss out, but a top-four finish would be compensation.

"Congratulations to Sandford who rightly should secure the title this Saturday," said Staddon.

"We are pleased with how the season has gone and will just be looking to enjoy the last couple of games."

PLYMPTON remain in relegation peril from the Premier Division after going down by 29 runs to champs-in-waiting Sandford.

It seemed Plympton had done the hard part by shooting-out Sandford for 123 Josiah Caunter finishing with four wickets.
