PLYMOUTH’S Central Park has been dubbed an “eyesore” and a “moonscape” as work to complete new ponds stalls. Neighbouring residents and park users say large areas of the park are unusable and covered in heaps of soil and building refuse.
Vast swathes remain fenced off, with some of the safety fencing even broken down. Regular park users say no work appears to have been carried out at all this year.
Plymouth City Council began the ambitious project to create ponds and a wildlife area at the Barn Park area in late 2022. But it has been delayed by this year’s wet weather and a lack of machinery and even of contractors to carry out the work.
The council said it is as frustrated as the park users and said it aims for work to restart before the end of July. That will be welcomed by park users who told The Herald they are fed up with the state of the park.
