PLANS to build a hotel and food outlets on disused former playing fields are now moving forward after Plymouth City Council borrowed cash to jump-start the stalled development calling it a "win-win" for the city.
The authority will use money obtained from the Government at low interest rates to reinvigorate the scheme on Embankment Road, next to the River Plym, and said that, once developed, the site will bring jobs and income for the council.
The former Prince Rock playing fields have been earmarked for redevelopment since 2018, when plans for an 80-bed Travelodge, plus a Greggs, KFC, Costa Coffee and even a pub were submitted. But in common with many other development projects, the scheme has stalled due to an increase in construction costs, as well as changes in the proposed scheme.
