PRINCE William visited Wistman’s Wood on Dartmoor during a visit this week and saw the area of ancient woodland he has plans to expand.
The Duchy of Cornwall, along with Natural England and Dartmoor National Park Authority, are working on a scheme to double the size of the woodland by 2040.
It is home to rare Atlantic mosses and lichens, and is designated as a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation.
Nestled in the heart of the moor, the three-hectare wood in the West Dart Valley acts as a remainder of what was once a great forest that covered much of Dartmoor until Neolithic hunter-gatherers cleared it around 5,000BC.
