AN animal charity which is looking after a domesticated rat found abandoned in a Keyham park fears a second pet may be desperately roaming parts of Plymouth.
Periwinkle nicknamed Perry was found last month by members of the public. Locals contacted the Nature Nook, a pet store and community interest company based in Totnes Road, Paignton, which specialises in exotic animal rescue, asking if they had space to take him in as no-one appeared to own him.
Perry spent four days at Estover Vets on "stray hold" but unfortunately his owners never came forward and he was relocated by the Nature Nook staff to Filham Park Veterinary Clinic in Ivybridge, who have more experience of exotic animals.
More appeals for information about the owners came to naught, but in the intervening period more reports of another potentially abandoned pet rat began to circulate.
