Restrictions on parking blamed for custom fall

PLYMOUTH pasty chain boss Lesley Park is blaming parking restrictions as one reason for a dramatic fall in custom at three of her stores. Mrs Park is this weekend transforming the Oggy Oggy shop at Plymstock Broadway into a cafe as she battles a decline in footfall at the precinct.

She said she has also seen a drop in custom at her stores in Ivybridge and Plympton Ridgeway.

In early 2023, Plymouth City Council brought in parking restrictions at short-stay car parks in the city.

Although free parking was increased from two hours to three hours at the Plympton Ridgeway and Plymstock Broadway car parks, motorists must still obtain a ticket and submit their number plate details at the terminal. In South Hams District Council’s Ivybridge car parks, charges apply.

Mrs Park said that even though the Plympton and Plymstock car parks are free, the time restriction and the palaver of having to input registration details means shoppers are being enticed to supermarkets where parking is free and easy.
