BUSINESSES in Plymouth city centre have come out in support of the new plan to redevelop Armada Way, saying the revised £12.7 million upgrade will transform the area.

Revised Armada Way plans are welcomed

Shop owners and Plymouth City Centre Company have hailed the proposals, currently under consultation, as “amazing”.

They are particularly excited about plans to include a huge “play village” for families, with a ship-shaped climbing frame. Caroline Sardu, owner of Baby Roo, in Armada Way, said: “Having a new play area is really exciting. The great big ship will bring footfall. It will be a new big family village hub.”

Businesses said that in recent years Armada Way has seen a serious decline in footfall, with many empty shop units. It has features that are in need of repair and have not been updated since the 1980s.
