SailGP confirms city misses out

THE organisers of SailGP have confirmed that Plymouth failed in its bid to bring the spectacular event back to Britain’s Ocean City for a third year, but hope the race series would return to the UK in future.

Last week, Plymouth City Council leader Richard Bingley revealed SailGP, a huge money-spinner for Plymouth, will not be mooring in Britain during 2023. Now, the company behind the event has confirmed this and said that, while Plymouth was in the running, it was decided to go somewhere else.

A spokesperson for SailGP said Plymouth would not feature in Season Four of the competition.

The spokesperson said: It was a

competitive bid process for cities to host SailGP in Season Four and there has been an overwhelming response.
